Andhra Pradesh BJP chief PVN Madhav today dismissed US President Donald Trump’s steep tariffs on Indian goods, asserting that they will harm the US far more than India. Speaking at a ‘Chai pe charcha’ event in Ongole, Madhav expressed unwavering confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ability to navigate the crisis, predicting that Modi’s strategic leadership will shield India from economic fallout and drive progress through the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Trump’s decision, announced on Wednesday, imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports, bringing the total to a staggering 50%, as a penalty for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil. Madhav, addressing supporters over tea, downplayed the immediate challenges, emphasizing India’s resilience. “Trump’s actions may cause temporary difficulties, but they will backfire on America. Under Modi’s visionary leadership, India will not only overcome this but achieve great development,” he declared.
Madhav highlighted the ‘Make in India’ program as a cornerstone of India’s economic strength, predicting it will propel the nation to new heights despite external pressures. He praised Modi’s global popularity and problem-solving acumen, assuring supporters that the Prime Minister would ensure India incurs “no losses” from the US tariffs. Reflecting on the power of small gatherings, Madhav noted, “Even a simple tea stall discussion can spark big changes.”
