Acclaimed actor Prakash Raj has strongly denounced a violent attack on four YouTubers, including a cameraman, who were covering the contentious mass burial case in Dharmasthala, Dakshina Kannada district. The assault occurred Wednesday evening when a large mob targeted journalists from three YouTube channels, accusing them of defaming the town amid an ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation into allegations of mass murder, rape, and illegal burials over the past two decades.
In an impassioned video message posted on social media, Prakash Raj expressed dismay, stating, “Attacking journalists seeking justice for Soujanya’s murder is unacceptable. Such actions tarnish Dharmasthala’s reputation. Why does the call for truth about Soujanya’s tragic death provoke violence? It raises questions about who is orchestrating this.” He called on the police to apprehend the attackers and uncover the truth, stressing that pursuing justice is a fundamental right.
The incident is linked to renewed public outrage over the 2012 death of Soujanya, a college student found dead in Dharmasthala under suspicious circumstances. Social media campaigns have amplified demands for justice in recent weeks, putting pressure on authorities. The Karnataka government’s SIT is probing the serious allegations, intensifying focus on the town’s history.
