A grueling anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its seventh day today, marking the longest such mission in the Kashmir Valley this year. Security forces, including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and Special Operations Group (SOG), are locked in a fierce battle against terrorists hiding in the dense forests of Akhal, Devsar. The operation, which began on July 31 following intelligence about terrorist presence, has seen intermittent firefights, with drones and helicopters deployed to track the ultras in the challenging terrain.
Two terrorists have been killed so far, with the latest reported on Saturday, though their identities and affiliations remain unconfirmed. At least two security personnel have been injured in the intense exchanges. The operation, launched with a cordon-and-search effort, resumed with heightened reinforcements after a brief pause on Friday night. The Chinar Corps reported on X that “alert troops responded with calibrated fire, tightening the noose” during overnight clashes, neutralizing one terrorist.
Army’s Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed the counter-terrorism grid in South Kashmir on Thursday, commending the troops for their “steadfastness and resilience” in ensuring peace. The Indian Army’s Northern Command posted on X, “Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed the security situation and ongoing operations, applauding the resolute commitment of all ranks.”

The operation coincides with heightened security focus, following the anniversary of Article 370’s abrogation on August 5. The mission echoes recent successes like Operation Mahadev on July 28, where three hardcore terrorists were neutralized in Lidwas. As the Kulgam operation continues, security forces remain vigilant, determined to root out terrorism and restore stability in the region.
