Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday praised personnel of the state Power Department for their efforts in restoring electricity in flood-affected areas across the state. He said engineers, technicians and field staff were working under challenging conditions and using all possible measures to reconnect damaged transformers and restore the power network.

In a post on X, Sarma appreciated the dedication of power department teams operating in inundated regions to bring back essential services. He highlighted the efforts of frontline workers who have been repairing damaged electricity infrastructure despite difficult weather and flood conditions.

The Chief Minister also praised the resilience of Assam’s power infrastructure, saying that much of the energy network had remained functional despite facing severe flooding. He said the ability of the system to withstand the impact of unprecedented floodwaters reflected the strength of the state’s electricity infrastructure.

Several parts of Assam have witnessed heavy rainfall and flooding in recent weeks, causing damage to roads, bridges, embankments and electricity facilities. Floodwaters and strong currents affected power supply in many areas after transformers, electricity poles and distribution lines were submerged or damaged.

Power restoration teams have been working continuously to reconnect affected regions, with priority being given to critical facilities such as hospitals, relief camps and drinking water installations. Authorities have been gradually restoring electricity supply to residential areas as floodwaters recede and conditions improve.

The state government has said that restoring essential services remains a key priority along with rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-hit districts. Sarma’s appreciation comes as multiple departments continue coordinated work to bring normalcy back to affected communities, with electricity restoration playing an important role in communication, relief operations and daily life.
