The Indian Armed Forces commenced a comprehensive multi-dimensional combat exercise on Tuesday at the Dulung Reserve Forest in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, set to continue until August 31, 2025.
The exercise, conducted at the Dulung Mukh range near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, involves live-fire drills, including bombing, rocket launching, and shooting, aimed at testing advanced explosive capabilities and aerial firepower, a senior official confirmed.
“This is the first time the Dulung range is hosting full-spectrum rocket and aerial bombardment exercises, signaling an enhanced security posture along the strategically vital Northeastern frontier near China,” the official stated.

The drills, originating from the Indian Air Force’s Tezpur air base in Sonitpur district, will feature combat aircraft like the Sukhoi-30 MKI, which have been regularly spotted during prior exercises at the range.
To ensure safety, the district administration and Forest Department have barred public access to the forest during the exercise period. “This directive aims to prevent any untoward incidents and protect lives and property,” a district official said.
The exercise underscores India’s focus on bolstering defense readiness in the sensitive region, amid growing geopolitical tensions.
