A devastating accident in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district claimed the lives of two individuals and left nine others seriously injured when a private Durgamba bus collided with a stationary truck near Gajanur, approximately 12 kilometers from Shivamogga, in the early hours of Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Annappa, 32, the bus conductor, and Harshith, 25, a passenger, both of whom died instantly at the scene.
The bus, traveling from Mangaluru to Challakere in Chitradurga district, swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, leading to the fatal crash with the parked truck, according to preliminary police investigations. The nine injured passengers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment for serious injuries. Authorities have registered a case and are investigating further, focusing on whether the truck had adequate warning signals displayed.
This tragic incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety, particularly involving heavy vehicles on Karnataka’s highways.
