The Border Security Force (BSF) seized four gold pieces weighing 439.23 grams, valued at Rs 44.40 lakh, in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Acting on specific intelligence, troops from the 11th Battalion of BSF’s South Bengal Frontier recovered the gold, hidden in a black packet in bushes approximately 50 meters from the India-Bangladesh border in the Baijnathpur area. The consignment was handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for further action, per a BSF statement.
N.K. Pandey, DIG and spokesperson for BSF South Bengal Frontier, praised the operation, emphasizing the force’s vigilance in curbing cross-border smuggling. He urged border residents to report suspicious activities via the ‘Seema Sathi’ helpline (14419) or WhatsApp (9903472227), assuring anonymity and rewards for credible tips.
This seizure follows a July 22 joint BSF-RPF operation in Nadia, where a woman was arrested with Rs 57.6 lakh worth of gold at Ranaghat Railway Station, reflecting heightened anti-smuggling efforts along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border.
