Congress President and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge fiercely criticized Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding he take responsibility for the security lapse that led to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians. Speaking during a Rajya Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Kharge cited Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s admission of a security failure, insisting that Shah, not Sinha, must be held accountable.
Kharge accused the Modi government of arrogance and inaction, questioning why Prime Minister Narendra Modi prioritized Bihar election campaigning over attending an all-party meeting on national security. He referenced Modi’s unscheduled 2015 Pakistan visit to challenge his commitment to combating terrorism. “The government must admit its lapses and failures in stopping terror attacks,” Kharge urged, alleging attempts to shield Shah by deflecting blame to Sinha.
The Congress leader also criticized the government for ignoring opposition letters and failing to address recurring terror incidents, including attacks in Reasi, Srinagar, and Pulwama. Kharge’s remarks intensified the Opposition’s call for accountability, spotlighting systemic security gaps under the Modi administration as Parliament debates India’s response to the Pahalgam tragedy.
