Police in Jalpaiguri have launched an anti-narcotics operation following complaints from local youths about alleged drug trafficking activities in their neighbourhood. The crackdown was carried out two days after two residents approached West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and raised concerns over the spread of illegal drug trade in the area.

The operation was conducted by personnel from Kotwali Police Station in the Indira Gandhi Colony area of Jalpaiguri town on Monday night. During the raid, police officials said they recovered narcotics and illicit liquor. The action was part of ongoing efforts by the district police to curb illegal activities linked to substance abuse and trafficking.

The complaints were raised by local residents Deep Das and Gagan Sakaru, who are from Indira Gandhi Colony. According to reports, the two youths had stopped the Chief Minister’s convoy while he was travelling from the Jalpaiguri District Magistrate’s office to the Jalpesh temple last week and informed him about alleged drug-related issues in their locality.

Following their interaction, the Chief Minister reportedly shared his mobile number with the youths and asked them to contact him through WhatsApp if the problem continued. After receiving renewed concerns from the area, police intensified their monitoring and carried out the latest anti-drug operation.

District Superintendent of Police Sujata Kumari Veenapani said police teams were conducting continuous anti-narcotics drives across Jalpaiguri district. She stated that action against illegal drug-related activities was being carried out regularly to prevent the spread of substance abuse and maintain law and order.

Residents of Indira Gandhi Colony have alleged that illegal drug transactions were taking place around some tea stalls and hotels in the local market area, affecting young people and disrupting daily life. They have demanded stricter action against those involved, along with regular surveillance and repeated police raids to prevent the activities from returning.
