Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced in the Rajya Sabha that Indian security forces successfully eliminated three terrorists responsible for the devastating April 2025 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. Speaking during a debate on Operation Sindoor, Singh congratulated the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police for their precision in the joint operation near Srinagar. He noted that Home Minister Amit Shah had provided a detailed account of the operation in the Lok Sabha, underscoring its significance in combating terrorism.
Following the Pahalgam attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting with service chiefs, granting them strategic autonomy to respond based on their expertise and the regional security context. “Operation Sindoor was a resolute message of India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism,” Singh stated, emphasizing that the operation was a defensive measure to dismantle terror infrastructure and counter Pakistan’s use of terrorism as a proxy war. He clarified that India’s actions were not expansionist but aimed at punishing those responsible for the attack and ensuring national security.
Singh revealed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) urged India to halt hostilities, a request India accepted on the condition that Operation Sindoor would be suspended, not terminated. “If Pakistan sponsors any terror incidents in the future, we will relaunch Operation Sindoor without hesitation,” he warned, signaling India’s readiness to respond decisively to any further provocations. The operation’s success, he added, showcased the maturity and strategic prowess of India’s military leadership in addressing cross-border terrorism.

The Rajya Sabha discussion, which began after the House reassembled at 2 PM following an earlier adjournment, was marked by tension. Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O’Brien attempted to raise a point of order regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, but Deputy Chairman Harivansh disallowed it, urging members to focus on the sensitive topic of Operation Sindoor. Frustrated, TMC MPs and some INDIA bloc members staged a walkout, raising slogans against the SIR process and briefly disrupting proceedings by trooping into the Well of the House. Despite the interruptions, the debate underscored India’s firm stance against terrorism and the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens.
