The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun shaping its strategy for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with a key focus on countering Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA (Backward, Dalit and Minority) outreach. The BJP believes the SP’s caste-based electoral approach, which helped the INDIA bloc perform strongly in Uttar Pradesh during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, will be a major factor in the upcoming state polls.

The BJP has identified support shifts among certain communities during the 2024 general elections as a challenge that needs to be addressed. Party leaders believe the SP benefited from increased representation of Kurmi candidates, while the SP-Congress alliance also gained support among sections of the Pasi community and other non-Jatav Scheduled Caste voters. The BJP has attributed some of this shift to opposition messaging around reservation issues.

To regain support among these groups, the BJP is planning community-focused organisational and political measures. The appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary, a leader from the Kurmi community, as state BJP president is being viewed as part of this strategy. The party is also preparing to provide greater representation to Kurmis and other non-Yadav Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The party is also working to strengthen its position among non-Jatav Dalit voters, while closely monitoring possible political developments involving leaders such as Asaduddin Owaisi and Chandrashekhar Azad. BJP strategists believe that a potential alliance between such groups could alter the electoral contest by creating a multi-cornered fight in several constituencies.

Along with caste equations, the BJP is focusing on issues related to governance, youth concerns and its traditional voter base. Party leaders have expressed caution over issues that could affect young voters, while also working to maintain support among Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishya communities. The party is also assessing the impact of debates around reservation-related matters and other political issues ahead of the elections.

The BJP’s central leadership is preparing an extensive campaign plan for Uttar Pradesh, with senior leaders expected to increase visits to the state in the coming months. BJP President Nitin Naveen, Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to take part in outreach activities, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state president Pankaj Chaudhary have started touring the state and engaging with party workers to strengthen the organisation ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
