The Chhattisgarh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, on Wednesday approved a Rs 500-crore Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mission aimed at transforming the state into a technology-driven economy. The initiative seeks to integrate artificial intelligence into key sectors including education, skill development, startups, industries and governance.
Aligned with the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission, the programme is designed to promote AI-based innovation and strengthen digital infrastructure across the state. The government said the objective is not only to adopt emerging technologies but also to establish Chhattisgarh as a major hub for AI-led solutions and digital governance.
Under the five-year mission, the state plans to establish 100 AI Data Labs and five Centres of Excellence focused on research, innovation and skill development. The initiative will also support more than 300 AI startups, provide AI training to six lakh students and 1.5 lakh government employees, and develop over 50 AI-enabled public services to improve transparency and efficiency in administration.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the AI Mission represents a strategic investment to build a knowledge-based economy in Chhattisgarh. He added that the programme would create new employment opportunities for young people, strengthen the startup ecosystem, encourage industrial innovation and help improve data-driven decision-making in government services.
The Cabinet also approved a land allotment proposal for setting up a heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing facility by BEML, a public sector enterprise under the Government of India. The state government said the project would be the first facility of its kind in Chhattisgarh and is expected to boost industrial development, attract investment and create employment opportunities.
Officials said the combined focus on artificial intelligence and heavy engineering reflects the state’s broader strategy of building both digital and industrial capabilities. The government expects these initiatives to support youth employment, encourage innovation and position Chhattisgarh as an emerging destination for technology and manufacturing investments.
