Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhawan in Srinagar to assess the security situation across the Union Territory. The meeting focused on operational preparedness, intelligence sharing and measures to strengthen coordination among security and administrative agencies.

Sinha stressed the need for greater coordination and synergy among the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, intelligence agencies and civil administration. He called for a focused approach towards countering terrorism and strengthening the overall security mechanism. Senior officials from various security forces and administrative wings briefed the Lieutenant Governor on existing protocols and preparedness.

The meeting also reviewed strategies for improving intelligence sharing and responding to emerging security challenges. Sinha has been holding periodic reviews with security forces and intelligence agencies, with the objective of maintaining peace and strengthening measures against terrorism across Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces are also continuing operations aimed at dismantling the support network associated with terrorism in the Union Territory. These efforts include action against terrorists as well as their alleged over-ground workers and sympathisers. The security agencies are working to improve coordination between intelligence gathering, field operations and administrative responses.

The Indian Army and Border Security Force are responsible for security along the Line of Control and the International Border, where they are also working to prevent infiltration, arms and drug smuggling and drone-related activities. Security agencies have reported that drones are being used by terror handlers across the border to drop arms, ammunition, cash and drugs, which are allegedly collected by over-ground workers.

The Army and BSF are deploying anti-drone and other technological measures along with human intelligence to counter such activities. The discussions at Tuesday’s meeting underlined the importance of maintaining close coordination among agencies and strengthening preparedness to address security threats in Jammu and Kashmir.
