Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday welcomed India’s real GDP growth of 7.8 per cent in the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, describing the performance as a reflection of the country’s economic progress. The growth was recorded during April-June 2026, with both leaders highlighting the figure as significant amid a challenging global economic environment.

Fadnavis highlighted the 7.8 per cent expansion as an indication of India’s economic potential and expressed support for continuing the country’s growth trajectory. He linked the performance to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulated the nation on the latest GDP figures. His remarks came as India continues to focus on strengthening economic growth and development.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted that India recorded the 7.8 per cent GDP expansion at a time when several countries are dealing with conflict and its economic fallout. He described the growth as a reflection of economic progress and stability, while linking it to the broader vision of building a developed India by 2047.

Shinde also expressed confidence that India is steadily moving towards becoming an economic superpower and achieving the target of a $5 trillion economy. He emphasised Maharashtra’s role in the country’s development journey and assured that the state government would make a significant contribution to the national economic agenda.

Highlighting the global backdrop, Shinde noted that ongoing wars and geopolitical conflicts have affected economies across the world. Against this setting, he described India’s 7.8 per cent growth rate as a promising indicator of the country’s strengthening economic position. He also called for citizens to take pride in the country’s economic progress and contribute to further development.

Shinde further reiterated Maharashtra’s commitment to working with the Central government towards the $5 trillion economy target and the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ roadmap. He also criticised opposition parties over what he described as a politically driven negative approach towards national economic progress, urging broader participation in efforts to accelerate development.
