A fresh war of words has erupted between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) after Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took a swipe at his predecessor K Chandrashekar Rao using a Telugu wordplay involving a sacred bull and a pig. Reddy made the remarks at an event in Hyderabad as his government marked 1,000 days in office. The comments have drawn a sharp response from BRS leaders, who accused the Chief Minister of resorting to personal attacks instead of discussing his government's performance.

Reddy used the expression “Nandi versus pandi” while comparing himself with KCR, saying there was a significant difference between the two. In Telugu, “Nandi” refers to the sacred bull associated with Lord Shiva, while “pandi” means pig. The Chief Minister further used an analogy involving a donkey and a racehorse to attack his predecessor. The remarks were made in the context of Reddy’s repeated criticism of KCR over what he described as limited public and political activity since the BRS lost power in the 2023 Assembly election.

The Congress government has previously questioned KCR’s role as Leader of the Opposition, with Reddy accusing him of failing to remain sufficiently involved in public affairs and major political engagements. The latest remarks therefore represent another escalation in the political rivalry between the two leaders. Congress has sought to highlight the work of the Reddy government during its first 1,000 days, while the BRS has continued to challenge its record and question whether the ruling party has fulfilled the commitments made during the Assembly election campaign.

BRS leader and former Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao strongly criticised the Chief Minister’s remarks and demanded an apology to KCR. Rao accused Reddy of using personal insults to divert attention from questions surrounding the government’s performance. He argued that repeatedly targeting the former Chief Minister did not enhance Reddy’s stature and said such comments from a sitting Chief Minister reflected poorly on the dignity of the office and the political culture of Telangana.

Rao also challenged the Congress government to explain what it had achieved during its 1,000 days in power instead of focusing on KCR. He raised questions over the implementation of the Congress’s six guarantees and alleged that several election promises remained unfulfilled. According to Rao, personal attacks could not address the concerns of ordinary people or resolve the state’s wider governance challenges. He said criticism of the previous government should not replace accountability for the performance of the current administration.

The latest exchange highlights the continuing political confrontation between the Congress and BRS in Telangana, with both sides seeking to shape the narrative around the state government's record. Reddy has repeatedly attacked KCR’s political absence since the 2023 election, while the BRS has sought to shift the discussion towards the Congress government’s delivery of its promises. With the dispute now involving increasingly personal remarks, the latest episode is likely to add another layer to the rivalry between the two parties as they prepare for future political battles in the state.
