A chilling chargesheet filed by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Beed district court has exposed the brutal torture and murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in December. The assailants, who recorded 15 videos, took eight photos, and made two video calls during the ordeal, documented their savage attack on the village head, who was killed for resisting an extortion attempt targeting an energy company.
Deshmukh was abducted on December 9 from Dongaon toll plaza by six men, bundled into an SUV, and driven toward Kej taluka. His battered body, showing signs of extreme violence, was later found dumped roadside at Daithna Shivar. Despite being rushed to a hospital by Beed Police, he was declared dead on arrival. The chargesheet details how the accused beat Deshmukh from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm using a 41-inch gas pipe, iron rods, wooden sticks, and sharp weapons like a “fighter and dharkatti.”
Videos recovered from accused Mahesh Kedar’s smartphone capture the horror: five men, including Sudarshan Ghule, thrashing a half-naked Deshmukh, forcing him to chant degrading phrases, and urinating on him as he bled profusely. Wanted accused Krishna Andhale made two WhatsApp video calls during the torture. Seven men, including Walmik Karad—a close aide of state minister Dhananjay Munde—have been arrested, with one still at large.
The CID investigation revealed Ghule runs a crime syndicate in Beed, linked to 11 serious cases across multiple areas. Police recovered broken weapon fragments from the scene, underscoring the brutality. Deshmukh’s killing stemmed from his defiance against Ghule’s gang, which had previously targeted an energy firm official. The chargesheet lays bare a shocking tale of violence and criminality in central Maharashtra.
