Apple is reportedly working on a major visual upgrade for its smartwatch lineup, with leaks suggesting that watchOS 27 could introduce a simplified version of the Modular Ultra watch face to standard Apple Watch models. The update is expected to narrow the design gap between regular Apple Watches and the premium Apple Watch Ultra. According to reports, the new interface will focus on clarity and usability while maintaining the signature design elements that made the Ultra watch face popular.
The redesigned watch face is said to retain the large, bold clock layout seen on the Ultra model, occupying a significant portion of the display. However, to suit the smaller screens of standard Apple Watches, Apple is reportedly removing several elements that made the original design feel dense. This includes trimming down extra complications and removing some data layers, resulting in a cleaner and more streamlined user experience.
The move reflects Apple’s broader strategy of bringing premium design features to its wider ecosystem. While the Modular Ultra face on the Ultra model displays a large amount of real-time information, it can feel cluttered on smaller displays. By simplifying the layout, Apple aims to deliver the same functionality without overwhelming users, making it more accessible for everyday use.

In addition to the new watch face, Apple is also expected to continue its tradition of themed designs, including a new Pride-inspired watch face. Reports suggest that the upcoming version could be called “Pride Luminance” and may arrive ahead of the full watchOS 27 rollout. These updates highlight Apple’s continued focus on personalisation and user expression through its wearable devices.
The official unveiling of watchOS 27 is likely to take place at WWDC 2026, scheduled for June. The update is expected to launch later this year alongside new Apple Watch models. If the reports hold true, the changes could significantly enhance the visual appeal and usability of standard Apple Watches, bringing them closer than ever to the Ultra experience.
