Filmmaker Karan Johar is reportedly developing a new celebrity chat show following the conclusion of Koffee with Karan, which is set to end with its ninth season. The proposed series is expected to feature an original format developed under his production banner, potentially allowing him to continue hosting celebrity conversations while dedicating more time to directing films. However, the project has not been officially announced, and details about its launch and format remain undisclosed.
According to a report by Mid-Day, Johar’s decision to conclude Koffee with Karan may involve more than his plans to focus on filmmaking. The report suggests that he is exploring a new show that would give his production company ownership of the format’s rights. This would allow the filmmaker to develop an original entertainment property rather than continue with an established series. Although the broad concept is reportedly taking shape, there is no confirmed information about the platform, production schedule or release date.
The reported plans come after Johar confirmed that the upcoming ninth season of Koffee with Karan would be the programme’s final instalment. In a recently released promotional video, he directly addressed viewers and said he was not pretending when he announced that the show was ending. He also responded humorously to a caller who suggested that the programme should have concluded a decade earlier, pointing out that the person had not been invited to any of the previous eight seasons.

The promotional video also addressed speculation about the final season’s guest list. Johar stated that cricketers would not be invited, a remark that recalled the controversy surrounding Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul’s appearance on the show in 2019. Their comments during the episode triggered widespread criticism and led to brief suspensions for both players. Johar’s latest remarks appeared to acknowledge the programme’s history of generating controversy while maintaining the playful tone associated with its celebrity interviews.
Koffee with Karan first premiered in November 2004 and gradually became one of Hindi entertainment’s most recognisable celebrity chat shows. Its couch-based format combined conversations about films, personal lives and industry relationships with popular segments such as the Rapid Fire Round. Over more than two decades, the programme moved from cable television to digital streaming and frequently generated public discussion about celebrity culture, relationships and nepotism in the film industry.
The ninth and final season of Koffee with Karan is scheduled to begin streaming on JioHotstar on October 14. The guest line-up has not been revealed in the supplied report. Meanwhile, the possibility of a replacement chat show remains at the reporting stage, with its format, distribution platform and timeline yet to be confirmed. If developed, the new series could provide Johar with an opportunity to establish another celebrity entertainment property while bringing his long-running talk show to a close.
