Heavy rainfall triggered a landslide at Munkatiya near Sonprayag, halting the Kedarnath pilgrimage on Thursday, police confirmed. The debris-strewn road, now completely blocked, has forced authorities to suspend the yatra to the revered Himalayan temple as a precautionary measure.
A group of pilgrims returning from Gaurikund was briefly stranded in the sliding zone but was safely rescued and relocated to Sonprayag by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Efforts are underway to clear the route, with the administration prioritizing safety amid challenging weather conditions. The yatra remains on hold until the path is restored and deemed secure for travel.
