An Army ambulance carrying the body of Subedar Major Satyawan collided with a stationary truck on the Purvanchal Expressway on Sunday, killing four people, including three members of the soldier’s family and the ambulance driver, police said. The accident occurred around 8 am near the 79.6-km mark in the Haliyapur area, close to the Ayodhya-Sultanpur border.
The soldier’s body was being transported from Chandigarh to his native Galiya Dudhailla village in the Rudrapur area of Deoria district. His son Gaurav Singh, 28, brother Rajan Chaudhary, 35, nephew Ram Samujh Singh, 40, and ambulance driver Jaspal, 30, were accompanying the remains when the accident occurred. The incident resulted in the loss of several male members of the family during the journey to their native village.
According to police, the ambulance went out of control before crashing into the truck, which was parked on the side of the expressway. The collision caused extensive damage to the ambulance. Gaurav Singh and driver Jaspal died at the scene, while Rajan Chaudhary and Ram Samujh Singh were seriously injured and later succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Pithla-Kumarganj in Ayodhya district.

Following the accident, police reached the site and took the bodies into custody for post-mortem examinations. Officials said the families of those killed had been informed about the deaths. The body of Subedar Major Satyawan was kept at the Haliyapur police station premises as authorities made arrangements for its further transportation and the completion of the necessary procedures.
Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal said District Magistrate Indrajeet Singh and he visited the accident site after receiving information about the crash. The authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision, including how the ambulance lost control before hitting the stationary truck.
The accident has left Satyawan’s family facing multiple deaths while they were transporting his remains to their ancestral village. Police are continuing the necessary legal and procedural formalities following the crash, while arrangements are being made for the final handling of the soldier’s body and those of the four people who died in the accident.
