As preparations intensify for the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings have begun their training camp at the franchise’s high-performance centre in Chennai. The upcoming edition marks the return of veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, whose presence continues to energise fans and teammates alike. Alongside captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and other squad members, Dhoni has been actively participating in practice sessions as the team gears up for the T20 spectacle.
A light-hearted moment from one such session recently caught the attention of fans after a video clip went viral on social media. During a football drill incorporated into the training routine, new recruit Sarfaraz Khan accidentally handled the ball, drawing an immediate reaction from Dhoni. The former India captain responded with a playful slow clap, triggering laughter among teammates and adding a relaxed touch to the otherwise intense preparations. The incident has since been widely shared, reflecting the camaraderie within the squad.
Sarfaraz, who went unsold in the 2024 and 2025 IPL auctions, was acquired by CSK at his base price of Rs 75 lakh during the 2026 mini-auction. The Mumbai batter will be eager to make an impression after earning a fresh opportunity with the five-time champions. Known for his domestic cricket exploits and aggressive approach, he is expected to provide additional depth to CSK’s batting lineup this season.

The current phase of the training camp features primarily domestic Indian players who have reported early. Among those in attendance are Ayush Mhatre, Mukesh Choudhary, Rahul Chahar, Urvil Patel, Ramakrishna Ghosh and Sarfaraz. The coaching staff has structured sessions to focus on match fitness, fielding drills and team coordination, ensuring players gradually build rhythm ahead of the tournament’s start.
India internationals Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, currently competing in the T20 World Cup, are expected to join the squad once the tournament concludes on March 8. Their arrival is anticipated to strengthen the team’s core as CSK finalises combinations for the new season. The franchise also unveiled its official jersey recently, further heightening anticipation among supporters.
However, uncertainty remains regarding the arrival of overseas players due to the evolving conflict in the Middle East, which may impact travel logistics. With clarity on international recruits and the final fixture schedule still awaited, CSK continue their preparations with available personnel. Despite these variables, the viral moment featuring Dhoni and Sarfaraz has offered fans an early glimpse of the team’s spirit as the IPL 2026 countdown continues.
