Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking urgent intervention after she was allegedly asked to vacate a circuit house in her Krishnanagar constituency late on Friday night. Moitra described the incident as a violation of her rights and raised concerns about her safety after she was reportedly told to leave the government accommodation at around 9:47 pm. In her communication to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Moitra said the circumstances surrounding the direction to vacate the circuit house were concerning, particularly because it occurred late at night. 

The TMC lawmaker sought the Speaker's intervention, arguing that the incident had implications beyond the immediate dispute over accommodation and affected her ability to carry out her responsibilities as a Member of Parliament. The incident took place in Moitra's Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal, where she was present during the Independence Day period. Circuit houses are government-run accommodation facilities generally used by public officials and other authorised visitors. Moitra's complaint centres on the circumstances under which she was allegedly asked to leave the premises rather than simply the availability of the accommodation.

Moitra has characterised the episode as a matter of parliamentary privilege and personal security. Her appeal to Birla seeks to bring the matter before the Lok Sabha authorities and obtain intervention regarding what she considers inappropriate treatment. The MP has also raised the question of whether asking a woman lawmaker to vacate government accommodation late at night was consistent with her safety and rights. The development comes amid an increasingly contentious political environment in West Bengal, where the ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition parties have frequently clashed over administrative and political issues.

Moitra, one of the TMC's prominent national figures, has also been an outspoken participant in political debates involving the state and the Centre. The Lok Sabha Speaker's office has yet to indicate what action, if any, will be taken on Moitra's complaint. The circumstances surrounding the alleged instruction to vacate the circuit house, including who issued the direction and the stated reason for it, would be relevant to determining the nature of the dispute.

Moitra's request now puts the matter before the parliamentary authorities as she seeks an explanation and intervention. The episode has consequently developed into a political and parliamentary issue rather than remaining a dispute over government accommodation. Moitra's decision to formally approach Birla reflects the seriousness with which she views the incident, particularly her concerns about safety and the treatment of an elected woman MP.
