The Department of Primary Education in Karnataka is ramping up efforts to involve more government school students in the cultural Celebrations of Kannada Rajyotsava scheduled for November 1, 2025, at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru. Andhra Pradesh Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa shared that this will be the third consecutive year the event has been hosted at this venue, symbolizing the growing importance of the festival in promoting Karnataka’s rich culture and heritage.
Last year, a total of 1,100 students from both private and government schools participated in the cultural activities, including 300 government school students. This year, the number has risen to 1,700, with a substantial 700 participants from government schools, highlighting the department’s commitment to encourage their involvement beyond academics and sports.
Minister Madhu also revealed that teachers are conducting extra classes for students who scored low in exams, facilitated by uninterrupted free electricity supply to government schools. This support aims to improve educational outcomes while encouraging students’ talents in cultural pursuits.

Addressing recent discussions around academic standards, Madhu clarified that the decision to reduce pass marks for SSLC and PUC students was made after consulting various stakeholders, including former IAS officer Vijay Bhaskar. While some opposition arose from Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, the minister emphasized that similar pass standards are already followed by CBSE and ICSE boards.
The Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations remain a cornerstone for fostering pride in Karnataka’s language, history, and culture. This year’s larger turnout from government schools signals a conscious effort to promote inclusivity, enabling more young Kannadigas to experience the spirit of their heritage firsthand.
