Bengaluru is all set to witness one of the grandest Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations ever, with 1,700 students slated to participate in the annual event on November 1 at the Sree Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium. Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa confirmed that this year’s participation marks a significant increase, with 700 students representing government schools—a remarkable leap from last year’s 300. The event promises to be a vibrant showcase of Karnataka’s cultural spirit, with all participants receiving certificates of appreciation.
The celebrations will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, and Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader. Minister Bangarappa, after reviewing preparations with senior education and police officials, remarked that this is his third Rajyotsava as Education Minister and emphasized the growing enthusiasm among students and teachers for the event.
Highlighting recent initiatives, Bangarappa pointed out that government schools across Karnataka are now receiving free electricity to support remedial and after-hours learning. “This step has made it easier for teachers to hold special classes for students who need additional academic support,” he explained. The minister further announced that a special Children’s Day program will be held on November 14 to bring together students, teachers, and parents for interactive and cultural activities.

The minister also addressed recent policy changes, clarifying that the decision to reduce SSLC and PUC passing marks from 35% to 33% was based on public consultation to benefit rural and economically challenged students. “Boards like CBSE and ICSE already follow the 33% rule. This move ensures parity and inclusivity,” he added.
On recruitment, Bangarappa revealed that more than 13,000 teachers have been appointed so far and projected that approximately 32,000 to 33,000 educators will be serving across government and aided institutions in the next academic year. Key education officials including Principal Secretary Rashmi Mahesh and Commissioner Vikas Kishore Suralkar were present during the review meeting, reinforcing the department’s commitment to strengthening Karnataka’s public education system.
