A 15-year-old girl was found dead at her home in Assam's Hailakandi district, prompting a police investigation into allegations of rape and murder. The incident occurred in the Aloichora area under the jurisdiction of Katlichera Police Station late on Saturday night. Police have registered a case and detained several individuals for questioning, while awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death and verify allegations of sexual assault.
According to preliminary information, the girl had accompanied her family to a feast at a relative's house earlier in the evening. However, following an argument with a cousin, she reportedly returned home alone. When her family returned later that night, they found her dead inside the house. Authorities said the body bore severe injuries, and investigators have launched a detailed forensic examination to establish the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Police said the victim's family has alleged that she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. However, senior officials have stressed that these claims have not yet been medically confirmed. Senior Superintendent of Police Amitabh Sinha said investigators are awaiting the post-mortem findings before drawing conclusions regarding the nature of the offence, while assuring that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined.
