A Ukrainian drone strike targeting an industrial facility in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region killed one person and wounded two others, according to regional Governor Gleb Nikitin. The attack, which occurred overnight into Monday, struck two industrial zones, causing unspecified damage, as reported in an online statement by Nikitin. The incident comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares for a critical summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska later this week, aimed at negotiating a peace deal to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
A Ukrainian security official, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the operation, confirmed that at least four drones, deployed by Ukraine’s Security Services (SBU), targeted the Plandin plant in Arzamas. The facility, a key component of Russia’s military-industrial complex, manufactures gyroscopic devices, control systems, and onboard computers for Khinzal 32 and Khinzal 101 missiles. The official described the plant as an “absolutely legitimate target” due to its role in supporting Russia’s war efforts against Ukraine.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that its air defenses intercepted or destroyed 39 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula, during the same period. The strike underscores the intensifying tit-for-tat drone warfare as both nations brace for potential shifts in the conflict’s trajectory.

The upcoming Trump-Putin summit has heightened global attention, with Putin pushing to secure territorial gains and block Ukraine’s NATO aspirations, aiming to maintain Moscow’s influence over Kyiv. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains steadfast, rejecting any concessions that would cede Ukrainian territory or abandon NATO membership ambitions. European leaders have echoed Zelenskyy’s stance, insisting that any peace agreement must prioritize Ukraine’s sovereignty and involve Kyiv’s consent.
On the front lines, stretching over 1,000 kilometers, Ukrainian forces face mounting challenges against Russian advances. Many soldiers express skepticism about an imminent end to the conflict, anticipating only a temporary pause before Russia potentially escalates its military efforts. As diplomatic efforts intensify, the drone strike highlights the persistent volatility of the Russia-Ukraine war and its far-reaching implications.
