An eight-year-old boy died after being struck by a mini pitch roller at a cricket academy in Gurugram while he was playing with his brother and other children, police said. The child, identified as Akash Kumar, was reportedly on the academy premises when the machine, which had been parked there, suddenly began moving. The incident resulted in fatal injuries to the boy and has raised concerns about safety arrangements at the sports facility. According to preliminary information gathered by police, Akash was playing with his brother Neel and several other children at the cricket academy when the accident occurred. The mini pitch roller was parked on the premises at the time.

The children were near the machine when it unexpectedly started moving, creating a dangerous situation that the children were unable to anticipate. Police said the machine may have been activated after a child's hand triggered its circuit breaker. Around the same time, Akash reportedly fell in front of the moving roller. The machine then struck him, causing serious injuries. The other children who were present at the spot were reportedly frightened by the incident and fled from the area following the accident. Akash was a resident of Nalanda in Bihar. His family members were informed about the incident and immediately arranged a vehicle to take him to a nearby private hospital.

The child was rushed for emergency medical attention in the hope that his injuries could be treated. However, the injuries he sustained in the accident proved fatal. Doctors at the private hospital examined Akash after he was brought in, but declared him dead. The incident has left the family devastated and prompted police to examine the circumstances in which the pitch roller began moving while children were playing nearby. Investigators are expected to look into the operation and safety of the equipment as part of their inquiry. The preliminary account indicates that the machine's circuit breaker was triggered shortly before the accident.
