The U.S. State Department has approved $322 million in weapons sales to Ukraine, bolstering its defenses against intensifying Russian assaults. The package includes $150 million for U.S. armored vehicle support and $172 million for advanced surface-to-air missile systems, according to notifications sent to Congress on Wednesday.
This move follows a surprising pause in weapons shipments ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to review Pentagon stockpiles, a decision that initially stunned the White House. President Donald Trump quickly reversed course, vowing earlier this month to keep arming Ukraine. “They’re under heavy attack,” Trump stated. “We’ll send defensive weapons to help them hold the line.”
The approvals align with Trump’s recent push for European allies to purchase U.S. military equipment for transfer to Ukraine, though details on how these sales fit into that plan remain unclear. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, the U.S. has delivered over $67 billion in military aid to Kyiv.

Trump’s administration has faced internal and congressional pressure from isolationists advocating to curb U.S. funding for foreign conflicts. Despite this, the U.S. continues to urge allies to supply Ukraine with air defense systems, though Eastern European nations, wary of Russian threats, remain hesitant to part with their advanced systems.
