Jason Sudeikis’ beloved moustachioed coach is returning to the pitch. Apple TV+ has officially announced that ‘Ted Lasso’, the feel-good dramedy about an ever-optimistic American soccer coach in London, will be back for a fourth season.
While the streamer has not revealed a release date or production timeline, Sudeikis—who stars in and executive produces the show—offered a cryptic tease about the new season’s theme. “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be,” he said in a statement.
The ‘Ted Lasso’ character first appeared in 2013 as part of an NBC Sports promo for the English Premier League. In a short film, Sudeikis played Lasso, the clueless new coach of Tottenham Hotspur, delivering hilariously inaccurate takes on soccer. The skit became so popular that Sudeikis reprised the role in 2014, sparking interest in a full-fledged series. The idea eventually took shape when Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town) helped bring the show to Apple TV+.
Debuting in August 2020 during the pandemic lockdown, ‘Ted Lasso’ quickly became a global sensation. The show followed Lasso as he took charge of the fictional AFC Richmond, using his boundless optimism and homespun wisdom to win over skeptical players and fans. The series resonated with audiences seeking warmth and positivity, turning its cast—including Brett Goldstein, Hannah Waddingham, and Juno Temple—into stars.
Since its premiere, ‘Ted Lasso’ has won seven Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series for its first two seasons. With Season 4 now confirmed, fans can look forward to another round of heart, humour, and inspiring life lessons from everyone’s favourite coach.
