Bollywood composer Pritam has voiced his support for BLACKPINK’s Jennie, who has faced plagiarism accusations over her latest track ‘Like Jennie’, with some social media users claiming the song bears similarities to ‘Rani’s Intro Theme’ from the 2023 Bollywood film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’.
Responding to the controversy, Pritam who composed the music for the Bollywood film, took to Instagram on Friday to clarify that minor similarities in music are inevitable. He pointed out that even Jennie’s name rhymes with ‘Rani’, the character played by Alia Bhatt in the film.
“A similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy. In music, minor similarities are bound to happen—whether through rhymes, phrasing, or within the same genre,” he wrote.
The composer, known for hits like ‘Kesariya’, ‘Lehra Do’, and ‘Tu Hi Mera’, urged listeners to consider the broader picture rather than fixating on small details. He emphasized that in today’s interconnected world, where artists share platforms, intentional copying is unlikely.
“Creating a song takes immense effort, and if an artist truly resonates with an idea, they can simply collaborate,” he added.
Pritam also stressed that coincidences are common in the creative process, given how music is shaped by artistic influences and perspectives. He urged fans to celebrate artists rather than tearing them down.
“Music is about creativity, unique artistic perspective, influence, and sometimes pure coincidence—especially when artists exist on the same creative wavelength. Rather than tearing artists down, celebrating their work makes far more sense. Wishing Jennie all the best for the new album.”
Concluding his statement, he extended his best wishes to Jennie.
‘Like Jennie’ is part of her latest album, ‘Ruby’, which features 15 tracks.
