Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has clarified the circumstances surrounding the re-induction of her nephew Akash Anand into the party and his reappointment as national coordinator. Anand was brought back into the BSP on Monday, October 5, and given the organisational post again. Mayawati said media reports describing the developments as repeated expulsions did not provide the full context.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Mayawati said Anand had been active in party work after his return and disputed reports that he had been expelled from the BSP four times. She said Anand had played an active role in the organisation even before his marriage and had not faced expulsion during that period. Her comments came a day after she announced his return and restoration to a senior organisational position.
Mayawati also referred to Anand's association with Ashok Siddharth, his father-in-law, and alleged that efforts had been made to damage her nephew's image because of personal interests. She said Anand had been removed from the party in an effort to bring about an improvement in his conduct and was later taken back after he realised his mistakes. Siddharth has since announced his retirement from active politics.

The latest decision followed a public apology from Anand to Mayawati. Three days before his reinstatement, he had sought another opportunity to work under her leadership and expressed his continued commitment to the BSP. Mayawati subsequently announced that, after deliberation, the party had decided to give him another opportunity in the interest of the organisation and the Bahujan movement.
Mayawati said she was confident that there would be no further circumstances requiring the BSP to separate from Anand following Siddharth's decision to leave active politics. She expressed hope that Anand would continue to progress in political work and contribute to the organisation. The developments mark another change in the BSP's leadership structure ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
