Ayushmann Khurrana shared a light-hearted moment with Amitabh Bachchan during a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18, where he apologised for referring to the veteran actor’s character as “budhau” in their 2020 film Gulabo Sitabo. Ayushmann appeared on the quiz show alongside Sara Ali Khan on October 5 to promote their upcoming film Udta Teer. The episode also featured the two actors reflecting on their experience of working together.
During their conversation, Amitabh praised Ayushmann and his work, prompting the actor to revisit his reference to the veteran star in Gulabo Sitabo. Ayushmann jokingly apologised for calling Amitabh’s character “budhau”, a Hindi term meaning an old man. He added that despite Amitabh being 84, the actor displayed none of the traits associated with his age in real life and humorously described him as being “24”.
“Aapko film mein budhau kaha, I am sorry. Aap budhau nahi hain. Really life mein aap mein 84 wali koi harkat nahi hai, 24 hain aap,” Ayushmann said during the episode. Amitabh responded in his characteristic witty manner, asking, “84 wali kya harkatein hoti hain?” The exchange added a playful moment to the episode as the actors recalled their earlier collaboration.

Ayushmann and Amitabh previously worked together in Gulabo Sitabo, a comedy-drama directed by Shoojit Sircar. The film featured Amitabh as the irritable landlord Mirza and Ayushmann as Baankey, his tenant, with their relationship forming the central dynamic of the story. Their reunion on KBC 18 gave the actors an opportunity to revisit memories from the film while also discussing Ayushmann’s latest project.
At the trailer launch of Udta Teer on September 24, Ayushmann also spoke about his role in the upcoming spy comedy. He explained that his character is a Pakistani agent and said he approached scenes involving patriotic elements strictly according to the demands of the script. Describing the film as a combination of spy comedy and patriotic comedy, he said he prioritises the script while working and follows what the director requires from him.
Udta Teer marks Akash A Kaushik’s directorial debut and features Ayushmann in a character caught between two identities. The actor has described the project as a genre-bending spy comedy, while his appearance with Sara Ali Khan on KBC 18 has provided an opportunity to promote the film ahead of its release.
