The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will host its IPL 2026 home games at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium under strict safety protocols, following clearance from the Karnataka government. Authorities have announced several measures to control crowds and ensure spectator safety after last year’s stampede during the celebrations of RCB’s maiden IPL title in 2025.
One of the most significant changes is a reduction in stadium capacity. While the M Chinnaswamy Stadium can accommodate 35,000 spectators, only 28,000 will be allowed inside for each match. “Eighty per cent of the tickets must be sold online, while the remaining offline tickets can only be sold three days before the match,” a government source told CNN-News18. Organisers, including RCB, are tasked with monitoring ticket sales closely to avoid overcrowding.
To manage crowd flow, designated holding areas have been created outside the stadium to ease pressure at entry points. Additionally, stadium gates have been widened, and a colour-coded ticketing system will guide spectators to their assigned zones. “If someone has a yellow ticket, they will be directed only towards the gates marked yellow and seated in that zone. They cannot move to another area. This helps both the ushers and the police quickly identify where spectators are located and respond immediately if a situation arises,” the official explained.

The government has also addressed concerns about surges in spectators arriving via metro. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will increase the number of coaches on match days and enhance train frequency. Officials will continuously monitor passenger numbers at stations around the stadium to prevent overcrowding.
Authorities emphasized that these measures form part of a “well-planned mechanism” designed to ensure a safe and organized experience for fans. They aim to balance crowd enthusiasm with safety, addressing lessons learned from the previous year’s celebrations while maintaining the excitement of live IPL matches.
With these steps in place, Bengaluru residents and cricket enthusiasts can expect a more structured and secure environment while cheering for RCB in the IPL 2026 season.
