The Shubman Gill-led Indian cricket team arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday ahead of its two-match Test series against the hosts. Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed the team’s arrival by sharing photographs of several Indian players on its official social media account. The images featured Gill alongside prominent squad members, including Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul.

Welcoming the visiting side, Sri Lanka Cricket said the stage was set for an exciting contest between the two cricketing nations. The board’s post marked the beginning of India’s preparations for the Test assignment, which will feature matches in Galle and Colombo. The series will provide both teams with an opportunity to test their combinations and strategies in Sri Lankan conditions.

Before the Test series begins, India will play a three-day warm-up match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club ground in Colombo. The preparatory fixture is scheduled to start on August 7 and will allow the visiting players to adjust to local weather, pitches and playing conditions. It will also give the team management an opportunity to assess the form and readiness of available squad members.

The opening Test is scheduled to begin on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium. The venue has traditionally presented demanding conditions for visiting teams, particularly as matches progress and the surface begins to offer greater assistance to spin bowlers. India’s batters and bowlers will use the preceding training sessions and warm-up match to prepare for the challenges expected in Galle.

Following the first Test, the two teams will travel to Colombo for the second and final match of the series. That contest will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club, one of Sri Lanka’s established international cricket venues. The change in location could require both sides to adapt their plans according to the conditions available at the Colombo ground.

The tour is among Gill’s important assignments as the leader of India’s Test side and will place attention on his tactical decisions and the team’s performance away from home. With the players now in Colombo, India’s immediate focus will be on training and the three-day practice fixture. The series will officially begin when the teams meet in Galle on August 15.
