The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The weather department has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Assam, increasing concerns over flooding, landslides, and disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions in the northeastern region.

According to the IMD, an active monsoon system is influencing weather patterns across the Northeast, leading to intense rainfall activity. Several areas of Upper Assam and neighbouring regions are expected to receive heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, which could affect daily activities and transportation in vulnerable areas.

Authorities in the affected states have advised residents, especially those living in low-lying locations and landslide-prone zones, to remain cautious. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through hilly terrain, as continuous rainfall may increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, and road blockages.

Disaster management agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and district administrations, have been placed on alert to handle possible emergencies. The IMD has advised people to regularly follow official weather updates and comply with safety instructions issued by local authorities. Emergency preparedness measures are being maintained across the region to reduce the impact of potential weather-related incidents.

With the monsoon remaining active over the northeastern states, residents have been advised to take necessary precautions until conditions improve. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged the public to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall activity persists.
