Australia has announced a strong 14-member squad for its upcoming India A series in Puducherry, with several players who have already represented the senior national team included in the group. Ben Dwarshuis, Sam Konstas and Nathan McSweeney are among the notable names selected, while the squad also features Peter Handscomb, Brendan Doggett, Jhye Richardson and Todd Murphy. The tour is expected to provide Australia with valuable exposure to Indian conditions and give players an opportunity to strengthen their claims for future international selection.

The Australia A side will play two four-day matches and three one-day games during the tour, with all five fixtures scheduled to be held in Puducherry. The first four-day match is scheduled to begin on September 22, followed by the second match from September 29. The three unofficial one-day games will then be played on October 6, 9 and 11. The red-ball fixtures will be particularly important for players competing for Test positions, while the limited-overs matches will offer opportunities to Australia's wider white-ball group.

The tour is also being viewed as an important preparation exercise ahead of Australia's senior team's five-Test tour of India next year. The group also includes Jack Edwards, Sam Harper, Liam Hatcher, Campbell Kellaway, Fergus O'Neill, Josh Philippe, Corey Rocchiccioli and Liam Scott. The selection provides a mixture of established players and emerging cricketers, giving Australia an opportunity to assess different combinations in conditions that are expected to be significantly different from those at home.

The one-day squad contains another group of players with international experience and emerging talent. Dwarshuis, Konstas, McSweeney, Murphy, Philippe and Liam Scott are included alongside Mahli Beardman, Nikhil Chaudhary, Aaron Hardie, Spencer Johnson, Mitch Owen and Tanveer Sangha. Lachlan Shaw also features in the one-day group. Dwarshuis is among the notable additions and could use the matches to push his case for further opportunities, while younger players will have the chance to demonstrate their ability against India A opposition.

Cricket Australia's selection panel said the series forms part of the country's broader investment in its Australia A programme and preparation for challenging overseas conditions. George Bailey said the squad combines players with international experience and others who are continuing to push for higher honours. Strong performances in Puducherry could therefore have implications beyond the immediate tour, particularly for players hoping to be considered for Australia's next assignment in India. The combination of four-day and one-day cricket is expected to give selectors a broad assessment of the country's emerging and established talent.
