The United States has hinted at a potential meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former President Donald Trump, with US envoy Sergio Gor saying “stay tuned” when asked about the possibility of high-level talks between the two leaders. The brief but suggestive remark has fuelled speculation about renewed diplomatic engagement amid evolving global geopolitical dynamics.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of recent diplomatic interactions, Gor did not confirm a date or venue but indicated that discussions between Washington and New Delhi remain active. His comment comes at a time when both countries are navigating complex global challenges, including trade alignments, strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific, and cooperation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and defence innovation.
India and the United States have significantly deepened their strategic partnership over the past decade, expanding cooperation through platforms such as the Quad and strengthening defence interoperability. Any meeting between Modi and Trump would be closely watched for signals on trade policy, supply chain resilience, and broader geopolitical coordination, particularly given Trump’s past emphasis on bilateral trade balances and “America First” policies.

Analysts note that personal rapport has historically played a visible role in Modi-Trump engagements, with previous meetings marked by high-profile public events and strong messaging on bilateral ties. However, policy substance—especially on tariffs, immigration frameworks affecting Indian professionals, and defence procurement—remains central to the trajectory of the relationship.
Neither the Indian Ministry of External Affairs nor the US State Department has issued an official confirmation regarding a scheduled meeting. For now, Gor’s “stay tuned” comment has left diplomatic observers awaiting further clarity on whether formal talks between Modi and Trump are imminent or still under discussion.
