President Droupadi Murmu on Monday held a meeting with Myanmar’s head of state U Min Aung Hlaing at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, during which she highlighted India’s continued support for peace, reconciliation, and the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two neighbouring countries.
During the meeting, President Murmu underscored the deep civilisational linkages between India and Myanmar, particularly their shared Buddhist heritage and centuries-old people-to-people connections. She noted that these historical and cultural ties continue to lend a unique warmth to the relationship, and described Myanmar as a key gateway for India’s engagement with Southeast Asia.
The President also reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for Myanmar’s efforts toward internal peace and reconciliation. According to the President’s Secretariat, she conveyed that India remains committed to supporting stability in Myanmar while continuing to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors, including development and regional connectivity.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held wide-ranging discussions with President U Min Aung Hlaing at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The talks focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, development partnership, capacity building, security, and border management, reflecting the broad scope of India-Myanmar relations.
The Ministry of External Affairs said both sides agreed to deepen their partnership under India’s Neighbourhood First and Act East policies, with an emphasis on mutual growth, regional stability, and long-term collaboration. India also reiterated its role as a reliable partner and first responder in times of crisis, and expressed readiness to share governance and development experiences.
President Hlaing’s visit marks his first official trip to India after assuming office. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. As part of the visit, he is also scheduled to travel to Mumbai for business engagements and site visits aimed at strengthening economic and investment ties between the two countries.
