Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport, marking a major expansion of aviation infrastructure in western Rajasthan. The ₹480-crore project is aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity while boosting tourism, trade, and overall economic activity in the Marwar region.
The newly developed terminal spans more than 23,000 square metres and has the capacity to handle around 20 lakh passengers annually. Officials said the upgraded facility will significantly improve the airport’s ability to manage growing passenger traffic and enhance overall travel convenience for both domestic and regional flyers.
Designed with a blend of modern infrastructure and traditional Rajasthani architectural elements, the terminal reflects the cultural heritage of the state. It incorporates motifs inspired by local design styles while offering upgraded passenger amenities aimed at improving efficiency, comfort, and user experience at the airport.

Sustainability has also been prioritised in the project, with the terminal featuring energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, and green building practices. Authorities said these features make it a more environmentally responsible addition to India’s expanding aviation network.
The inauguration is expected to improve connectivity for Jodhpur and surrounding districts, making the region more accessible for tourists, business travellers, and investors. Officials believe the upgraded infrastructure will further position Jodhpur as a key tourism and commercial hub in western Rajasthan while generating new opportunities for employment and investment.
During the event, the Prime Minister also launched the revised UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to expand affordable regional air connectivity across the country. The programme focuses on operationalising more airports and improving access to underserved regions as part of India’s long-term aviation growth strategy. The ceremony was attended by Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and other senior leaders and officials.
