Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan at the Vice President’s official residence, Uprashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi on Monday, marking a formal interaction between the top naval leadership and the constitutional office.
During the meeting, the discussions were described as informal in nature, touching upon broader themes of governance, defence preparedness, and diplomacy, according to an official from the Ministry of Defence. The interaction underscored ongoing engagement between the armed forces and the country’s political leadership on matters of national security and strategic priorities.
As part of the courtesy call, Admiral Swaminathan presented mementoes to the Vice President, including a model of a naval ship. He also presented a ceremonial Navy crest memento, traditionally reserved for high-level official exchanges, reflecting the significance of the visit.

Officials noted that this meeting follows a series of early interactions by the newly appointed Navy Chief with India’s top leadership. Earlier on June 10, Admiral Swaminathan had called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan after assuming charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff.
Since taking over the position on May 31, Admiral Swaminathan has reiterated his focus on ensuring the Indian Navy maintains a high level of operational readiness and combat effectiveness. He has also emphasized strengthening self-reliance and indigenous defence capabilities under the broader framework of “Jointness, Atmanirbharata, and Indigenisation” (JAI).
In his remarks after assuming office, the Navy Chief described his appointment as a significant honour and highlighted the Navy’s role in safeguarding national security and economic interests in a complex and evolving regional security environment. He stated that maintaining preparedness in uncertain geopolitical conditions would remain a top priority for the force.
