External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday held talks with Minister-President of the German state of Thuringia Mario Voigt in New Delhi, focusing on strengthening India–Germany cooperation in business, technology, and sustainable development.
The meeting highlighted growing sub-national and institutional engagement between India and Germany, with both sides discussing opportunities for expanding economic collaboration. Jaishankar, in a post on X, described the interaction as “delighted,” noting Voigt’s support for deeper India–Germany and India–European Union ties and calling the discussions productive in areas such as business opportunities and technology partnerships.
In parallel, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also met the visiting German delegation at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday. The discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in urban development, governance, and technology-driven public services, reflecting increasing interest in city-level and regional partnerships between Indian and German institutions.

Both sides explored collaboration in smart urban infrastructure, sustainable development, digital governance systems, mobility solutions, water management, environmental technologies, and education and skill development. Officials said the engagement also focused on enhancing talent mobility and innovation-driven exchanges between India and Germany.
The meeting in New Delhi comes amid a broader strengthening of India–Germany relations across multiple sectors, including defence and strategic cooperation. Earlier engagements between the two countries have included high-level defence discussions, such as meetings between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius in Berlin, where both sides reviewed co-production opportunities and military cooperation frameworks.
India and Germany have in recent years expanded their strategic partnership through defence industrial cooperation, technological collaboration, and participation in multilateral frameworks. Officials on both sides have emphasised that such engagements are aimed at enhancing stability, economic resilience, and innovation-led growth, reinforcing a steadily deepening bilateral relationship.
