Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 17 5G smartphone in India, expanding its popular Redmi Note series with upgraded features including a large AMOLED display, an 8,000mAh battery, and improved durability. The new smartphone succeeds the Redmi Note 15 5G, which was introduced in India earlier this year, and brings several hardware improvements aimed at users seeking longer battery life and enhanced multimedia performance. The Redmi Note 17 5G will be available for purchase in India from August 12 through Amazon India and Xiaomi's official online store. The company has positioned the device as a feature-packed smartphone in the mid-range segment, focusing on display quality, battery endurance, and everyday performance.
The India pricing details were announced alongside the launch, with the device expected to compete with other smartphones offering large batteries and high-refresh-rate displays. In terms of design, the Redmi Note 17 5G features a polycarbonate body and will be available in three colour options — Starlight Purple, Dark Night, and Arctic Blue. The smartphone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection on the front for improved resistance against scratches and minor impacts. It also carries an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, offering additional protection during daily usage. The smartphone features a 6.9-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2396 × 1080 pixels.
The screen supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, providing smoother scrolling and improved responsiveness while gaming or watching videos. The display offers a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, making it easier to view content in bright outdoor conditions. Xiaomi has also included features such as an in-display fingerprint sensor, HydroTouch 2.0 technology for improved touch response in challenging conditions, and TUV-certified eye protection features. Under the hood, the Redmi Note 17 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset paired with an Adreno GPU. The processor is designed to deliver efficient performance for everyday tasks, social media usage, streaming, and casual gaming.

The device comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, providing faster app loading and sufficient space for applications and personal files. The smartphone runs Xiaomi's HyperOS 3 operating system out of the box, offering software improvements and a redesigned user experience. HyperOS brings enhanced system optimisation, smoother performance, and improved connectivity features across compatible Xiaomi devices. The software experience is expected to be one of the key highlights for users looking for a modern Android interface. One of the biggest upgrades in the Redmi Note 17 5G is its 8,000mAh battery, which is among the largest capacities available in this segment.
The battery is designed to provide extended usage, allowing users to spend more time on entertainment, gaming, and communication without frequently needing to recharge. Xiaomi has focused heavily on battery efficiency to complement the power-efficient Snapdragon processor. With its AMOLED display, large battery, durable design, and updated processor, the Redmi Note 17 5G aims to strengthen Xiaomi's presence in India's competitive mid-range smartphone market. The device will be closely compared with offerings from brands such as Realme, Samsung, Motorola, and iQOO as consumers continue to prioritise performance, battery life, and display quality in affordable smartphones.
