Indian batter Prithvi Shaw has officially joined the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) for the 2025-26 domestic season, leaving his home state team Mumbai after securing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association last month, PTI reported. The move follows Shaw’s exclusion from Mumbai’s red-ball teams due to fitness and disciplinary concerns, with his last appearance for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy final against Madhya Pradesh in 2024.
The Maharashtra Cricket Association hailed Shaw’s arrival as a “significant development” for Indian domestic cricket, citing his explosive batting and international experience across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. “Shaw has consistently impressed in the IPL and domestic cricket with his aggressive batting and match-winning capabilities,” the MCA stated, emphasizing the boost to their squad, which includes stars like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Mukesh Choudhary, and Rajneesh Gurbani.
Shaw, who has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India, expressed gratitude to Mumbai for past opportunities while embracing the new chapter. “Joining Maharashtra will help me grow further as a cricketer,” he said. “The MCA’s efforts to enhance cricketing infrastructure are remarkable, and I’m confident this progressive setup will positively impact my journey.”

MCA president Rohit Pawar welcomed Shaw, noting that his IPL and international experience would mentor younger players and strengthen the team. Shaw’s move comes as he seeks to revive his career after scoring 2,927 runs in 46 first-class matches at an average of 40.09, including a standout 379 off 383 balls for Mumbai against Assam in 2023. The switch positions him to play a pivotal role in Maharashtra’s Ranji Trophy campaign, starting in October 2025, alongside a talented roster aiming for domestic dominance.
