Former India pacer Dodda Ganesh has triggered debate in the IPL ecosystem after suggesting that Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul should consider entering the auction pool if reports of a potential return of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals materialise ahead of the next IPL cycle. The remarks come amid growing speculation over a possible high-profile trade between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants.
According to media reports, discussions are underway that could see Pant return to Delhi Capitals, while left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav could move in the opposite direction to Lucknow Super Giants. The reported trade scenario has already become one of the most talked-about developments ahead of the IPL 2027 planning cycle. Both franchises endured disappointing IPL 2026 campaigns, failing to qualify for the playoffs, with Lucknow finishing at the bottom of the table.
The potential reshuffle is being viewed as an attempt by both sides to reset their core squads. Under the reported arrangement, Pant—who previously captained Delhi Capitals for four seasons—could return to the franchise where he spent the majority of his early IPL career before being released ahead of the 2025 auction. He was later acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for a record fee of ₹27 crore, making him one of the most expensive players in IPL history.

As per the reported figures, Pant may agree to a reduced salary of around ₹15 crore if the trade goes through, while Kuldeep Yadav’s remuneration at Lucknow is expected to remain unchanged at ₹13.25 crore. The proposed swap has also drawn attention due to the financial adjustments involved and the strategic reshaping of both squads.
The speculation has reignited discussions around player retention and team balance in the IPL, particularly the pressure on franchises to align high-value players with long-term planning. While no official confirmation has been made by either franchise, the growing chatter has already influenced fan debates about leadership roles and team composition.
It is in this context that Dodda Ganesh’s comment gained traction, as he suggested that KL Rahul—currently a key figure for Delhi Capitals—might need to reassess his position if Pant returns to the squad. His statement has added another layer to an already complex set of rumours, as teams begin early preparations for the next auction cycle.
