Sanjiv Goenka drew praise from cricket fans on social media after a video showing his respectful interaction with Virat Kohli following the Indian Premier League match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru went viral online. The clip captured the Lucknow Super Giants owner patiently waiting alongside his grandson while Kohli was engaged in a conversation with former New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson after the match.
In the widely shared video, Goenka approached Kohli with the intention of introducing his grandson to the star batter but chose not to interrupt the ongoing conversation. Social media users particularly appreciated the businessman’s decision to quietly wait rather than ask staff members to intervene. Fans also noted that Goenka signalled to an LSG staff member not to disturb Kohli and Williamson while they were speaking, a gesture many viewers described as humble and respectful.
After the conversation ended, Kohli greeted Goenka and his grandson warmly before spending time interacting with them. The former India captain also signed an autograph for the child, a moment that further delighted fans online. The video quickly spread across social media platforms, with users praising both Kohli’s willingness to engage with supporters and Goenka’s patient conduct despite his status as the franchise owner.

The interaction came after Lucknow Super Giants secured an important victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a rain-affected IPL 2026 encounter. LSG ended a difficult six-match losing streak with a nine-run victory under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a 19-overs-per-side contest. The win also marked Lucknow’s first home victory in five matches and provided a major boost to team morale during a challenging campaign.
Following the match, LSG captain Rishabh Pant said the victory meant a lot to the squad after a frustrating run of results. Pant explained that the team had been working hard to bring batting and bowling performances together and described the win as an important moment for the dressing room. He also praised all-rounder Mitchell Marsh for his match-winning century and acknowledged the efforts of the bowling unit throughout the season.
Pant also spoke about his decision to trust spinner Digvesh Rathi with the final over while defending 20 runs against a dangerous RCB batting lineup. According to the skipper, the choice was based on matchups and tactical planning against hard-hitting batter Romario Shepherd. While the on-field performance gave Lucknow renewed hope in the tournament, it was the post-match interaction involving Goenka and Kohli that ultimately captured the attention and admiration of cricket fans online.
