Australia’s star pacer and Test skipper Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the white-ball series against New Zealand and India, Cricket Australia announced Tuesday. A recurring lower-back issue, identified as lumbar bone stress, has forced the 32-year-old to prioritise rehabilitation for the upcoming Ashes, starting November 21 against England in Perth.
Cummins, who bowled over 95 overs in four Tests across the UK and Caribbean this winter, will miss New Zealand’s three T20Is (Oct 1-5) and India’s three ODIs (Oct 19-25) and five T20Is (Oct 29-Nov 8). Cricket Australia emphasised that his recovery is being tailored for the gruelling five-Test Ashes series, spanning seven weeks.
This isn’t the first time Cummins’ back has caused concern, as similar issues plagued his early career. With the Ashes looming, questions swirl about whether Australia’s pace spearhead can endure the demanding schedule. Fans and selectors alike await updates on his return to bowling, with the nation’s hopes pinned on a fully fit Cummins leading the charge.
