In a jaw-dropping announcement, England fast bowler Jamie Overton, aged 31, has decided to step away from red-ball cricket indefinitely. The towering pacer, who featured in just two Test matches, including a recent draw against India at the Oval, cited the gruelling demands of a year-round cricket schedule as his reason for the shift.
Posting on X, Overton explained, “After much reflection, I’m taking an indefinite break from red-ball cricket. The physical and mental toll of all formats is too much. I’m all in for white-ball cricket moving forward, aiming to compete at the highest level for as long as I can.”
With only six ODIs and 12 T20Is since his 2022 international debut, Overton’s focus on white-ball cricket aligns with his stints in high-profile T20 leagues, including Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and London Spirit in The Hundred. This move likely clears his schedule for more lucrative global T20 opportunities, leaving fans wondering if he’ll ever return to the Test arena.
