Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim added a musical touch to his visit to India by singing a classic Kishore Kumar song at a gala dinner during the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Anwar performed Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat from the 1965 Bollywood film Teen Devian, delighting guests at the gathering hosted during the summit. The performance offered a lighter cultural moment amid discussions on global affairs, trade and international cooperation.

Accompanied by a live pianist, Anwar sang the popular track composed by S.D. Burman and written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. His performance drew attention from those attending the event and subsequently generated widespread reactions on social media. The Malaysian Prime Minister has previously spoken about his appreciation for Indian cinema and music, making his choice of a Kishore Kumar classic particularly notable during his India visit.

Anwar has also performed Indian songs during earlier engagements in India. During a previous visit, he sang Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat during a media interaction and also performed Mukesh’s classic Dost Dost Na Raha at an event in Delhi. His latest performance once again highlighted his longstanding interest in Indian music and cinema and added a cultural dimension to his participation in the BRICS gathering.

The Malaysian leader’s visit came as Malaysia participated in the BRICS Summit as a partner country. The summit brought together leaders and representatives to discuss major international issues, economic cooperation and efforts to strengthen multilateral partnerships. India and Malaysia also held discussions on expanding cooperation in areas including digital technology and tourism, alongside broader bilateral and economic engagement.

Anwar also spoke about his regard for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his standing internationally. He told reporters that he had received numerous messages from people in Malaysia asking him to convey their warm regards to the Indian Prime Minister. His musical performance, meanwhile, became one of the more informal moments of his New Delhi visit, bringing together political diplomacy and a shared appreciation for Indian popular culture.
