West Indies opener John Campbell produced a record-breaking century against India in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, reaching the landmark in just 65 balls. Campbell's aggressive innings helped West Indies make a strong start after India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. At the latest update, West Indies had raced to 244/2 after 31 overs, with captain Shai Hope completing his half-century.
Campbell eventually departed for 101 off 68 balls after becoming the fastest West Indies batter to score a century against India in ODIs. His hundred surpassed the previous mark held by Ricardo Powell, who had reached three figures in 72 balls against India in 1999. Campbell's innings also included a rapid half-century, underlining the attacking approach that put India under pressure during the opening stages.
India's decision to bowl first came after Gill won the toss and assessed that the Guwahati surface could offer some early assistance to the fast bowlers. The captain pointed to the grass and slightly patchy appearance of the pitch while explaining the decision. However, Campbell's counter-attacking innings allowed West Indies to build momentum despite India's decision to put them in to bat.

India made one change to their playing XI, handing Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Auqib Nabi his ODI debut in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Nabi's inclusion marked his first international appearance for India, while the hosts retained senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. West Indies, meanwhile, made four changes to their side for the second match of the three-game series.
Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar provided India with the breakthroughs as West Indies continued to maintain a high scoring rate. After Campbell's dismissal, Shai Hope remained at the crease alongside Amir Jangoo as the visitors looked to build a substantial total. The second ODI comes after India won the series opener in Thiruvananthapuram by eight wickets, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
