Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday alleged that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance could not secure victory in Maharashtra if elections were conducted fairly. Speaking at a Maharashtra Rajya Shikshak Sena event, a teachers’ union tied to his party, Thackeray urged educators involved in election duties to prevent vote tampering. “If elections are held honestly, Mahayuti cannot win, certainly not in Maharashtra,” he asserted, citing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claims of vote theft in past polls.
The Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and the NCP, swept the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, clinching 235 of 288 seats. Thackeray’s remarks reflect ongoing opposition narratives questioning the integrity of that landslide victory, with social media posts amplifying discussions on electoral transparency.
Thackeray also criticized the Narendra Modi government and the BCCI for permitting India’s cricket team to face Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, set to begin September 9 in the UAE, with a high-stakes India-Pakistan match scheduled for September 14 in Dubai.
Referencing recent protests for animal rights, he questioned the government’s stance on national security. “Where is your humanity when civilians are killed in Pahalgam or soldiers die? The PM said blood and water cannot flow together, yet you allow cricket with Pakistan?” he challenged, alluding to ongoing tensions and Operation Sindoor.

Thackeray’s comments have stirred debate, with supporters praising his boldness and critics accusing him of politicizing cricket. As Maharashtra’s political landscape remains charged, his call for electoral integrity and critique of central policies signal a combative stance ahead of future contests.
